From writing to performance, Speak Up is a 6-week journey through the depths and power of the self through Spoken Word.

Dive into what it means to be vulnerable, witness self-judgement and step into the empowerment of speaking your truths.

Come out of this course with the confidence to make a difference in your life, whether that means standing up to your boss or starting your own business, speaking at a wedding, touring internationally or simply being more comfortable to be yourself.

Who is it for?

This course is perfect for anyone wanting to build their confidence, their creativity or even to step back inwards towards a more authentic vulnerability. Whether you are an occasional public speaker, a yoga teacher, or just passionate about poetry this course will support and encourage your blossoming voice.

Are you ready to be Totally and Utterly Yourself?

To shine without fear of your own light? To be Creative, Vulnerable and Radically Authentic…. no matter how many people are watching you?

April 2020 enrolment now open.

I acknowledge that this course is happening on stolen land. That this is, and always will be, Aboriginal land and sovereignty was never ceded.
My deepest respects to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, to their elders past, present and emerging.

“I met myself on stage and she was glorious. Thank you a million times”

What to Expect

This six-week journey takes you safely from heart to page to stage.

Using exercises and games, Fleassy Malay guides the group to find their own words and their own voices culminating in a final performance on week 6.

The final performance is shared with a private and invited audience of our nearest and dearest friends and family.

Notes on venue, accessibility etc:

Getting there:
The venue is very close to Sydney Road trams and Brunswick Train Station.

Accessibility:
The venue is fully accessible.

Content accessibility:
We do a lot of drama/theatre type games which involve moving around the space and interacting with each other in different ways. Participants are encouraged to meet each exercise in whatever way is most suitable for their body/emotions and that there is no obligation.

If you rely on voice software to write however, this might not work due to the room being in silence when we do the group writing moments. Past participants have chosen to use phones or laptops for their writing instead of pen and paper, participants are welcome to use whatever format is most supportive of their writing.

A huge part of the course is voice and vocal use as well as assessing and unpacking how people use their bodies when they feel like they are being watched. This specific program would not be suited to people who don’t have cognitive control of their body/people who have a lot of involuntary movement or vocal expression. If this is your situation then a lot of the content might be challenging or less supportive for your performance journey and I would not advise this program.

However, I have had people with occasional vocal ticks or restricted body movement, ambulant people and wheelchair users in the course before and the content has not been a problem for them.

I’m always very keen and willing to learn, support and explore with participants with their unique requirements so please do contact me if you have any questions.

Inclusivity:
All genders are welcome to participate in this course. Participants over 16 only. This is an LGBTQI+ friendly space, if this does not suit your world views, I advise you to not attend.

If you have specific needs or questions around inclusivity, accessibility, body movement, hearing or voice then please contact me directly and I will be happy to give you an overview of the content of the course to see if it will be appropriate for you.
